Every group trip comes with its own cast of characters. Give everyone a few days, a shared itinerary, and unlimited access to alcohol, and people’s true personalities have a funny way of revealing themselves.
The Antagonist
Somehow there’s always one person who disagrees with the plan, doesn’t like the restaurant or itinerary, and doesn’t totally grasp the concept of group travel itself. Don’t worry, they won’t be invited on the next group trip.
The Vacation Athlete
They didn’t come all this way to rest. They’re up at 6:30 am running on the beach, doing push-ups on the balcony, or casually announcing they already clocked 12,000 steps before breakfast.
The Day Drinker
It’s 11:12 am and they’re on their second mimosa. “I’m on vacation!” is both their defense and strategy for the entire week. If you’re lucky, this person sobers up around dinnertime and doesn’t turn into a liability.
The Lord of the Dance
Doesn’t matter if it’s a wedding, a bar, a restaurant, or someone’s living room. Once the music starts, so begins the Lord of Dance.
The Independent Explorer
Loves the group but disappears for hours on end without telling anyone exactly where they’re going. Don’t worry though, they’ll happily meet everyone for dinner with a cool story about their solo adventure.
The Group Mom
Has Advil, Band-aids, a portable charger, sunscreen, snacks, and makes sure everyone stays hydrated. Nobody elected them. They simply assumed the position of most responsible person in the group. Not all heroes wear capes.
The One Who Actually Read The Itinerary
Knows what time breakfast will take place, how long airport transfers take, where the nearest ATM is, and which nearby restaurant has the best happy hour. This person is a valuable asset to the group and should be treated as such.
The One Who Has No Idea What’s Going On
“Wait, what time are we going?” “Do I need cash?” “Where are we going?”
They ask a lot of questions. That have already been answered. In the itinerary they’ve been receiving for six months.
The Down-for-Anything Person
The easiest person in the group to travel with. They don’t need convincing. They don’t even need a detailed itinerary, let alone a compelling argument to do something. Want to go kayaking? Sure. Walk around town for a few hours? Why not. Down to eat something we can’t pronounce? Obviously, because these folks are down for anything.
